Founded in 1870 Mitsubishi started as a shipping firm called Tsukumo Shokai. It then expanded into shipbuilding, banking, mining and insurance. The company adopted the name Mitsubishi Shokai. The name Mitsubishi means three diamonds reflected in the iconic logo. Mitsubishi became its own company in 1970. A few of their vehicles include the Outlander, Outlander plug-in hybrid,  Eclipse Cross, and Mirage to name a few.
