Daewoo began as National Motor in 1937 a small South Korean automotive firm. In 1965 it became Shinjin Motor, working with Toyota. After Toyota withdrew in 1972 it partnered with General Motors (GM) and called it GM Korea. In 1982 the company Daewoo Group took control and renamed the company Daewoo Motor. Known models such as the LeMans, Nexia and Espero, many based on GM designs. Other models they manufactured were the Lanos, Leganza, and Matiz.
