Isuzu dates back to 1916 but did not make any vehicles until 1922 when they produced their first domestically manufactured truck, the Wolseley Model A-9. The name Isuzu (meaning fifty bells, named after the Isuzu River) was first used in 1934. In 1949 Isuzu Motors Limited was established as a distinct company. In the 1950s-1960s Isuzu began producing passenger cars and expanding its truck line. In 1961 Isuzu released the Bellel the first Japanese car to be powered by a diesel engine. In the 1980s Isuzu entered the U.S. market with the Isuzu P’up (pick up) and the Trooper SUV. A few of the vehicles Isuzu offered here in America were the Rodeo, Trooper, Axiom, Ascender to mention a few.
